Nalanda University is an international university supported by the members of the East Asia Summit. The University came into being in the year 2010 through a special act passed in the parliament. It has been designated as an ‘institution of national importance.’ It is a research-oriented university. 

As it is an international university, the diversity of students is high, and the students can experience varied cultures. The curriculum is updated, but Nalanda University courses are limited. It does not offer any undergraduate courses. It offers only Masters, Post Graduate Diploma, and Doctorate programs. What are the top courses offered at Nalanda University? 

MBA in Sustainable Development and Management

The School of Management Studies of Nalanda University offers an MBA programme in Sustainable Development and Management. The course is open to Indian students and international students. The mission of the programme is to create a team of skilled management professionals who are ready to find sustainable solutions. They are trained not only to meet the challenges posed by industry on the marketing side but also on the environment front.

On successful completion of the course, the students will get a lot of career opportunities in various industries like IT, agriculture, education, Oil and Gas, environment, health, and many more. Eligibility: 

  • A minimum score of 70 percentile in CAT or XAT or MAT for Indian students

Doctorate in Historical Studies

The School of Historical Studies of Nalanda University offers Ph.D. in history. History is pursued scientifically in Nalanda. The students can understand and analyse economic histories, global histories, intellectual histories, and political histories, etc., through critical analysis. The faculties and students are focused on getting answers to questions like:

  • How humans understand the past
  • How the understanding of the past can help in the present
  • How the present is constituted by the past

The doctorate programme is a fully residential program for full-time students. The course duration is 4 years, and a stipend of 35,000 INR is given to the students. The applicants should have completed a Master’s degree and should have passed with at least 65% marks. They should submit a letter of self-introduction, two letters of reference, a Statement of Purpose, and a detailed project proposal. International students whose first language is not English should submit a language proficiency proof. 

Doctorate in Ecology and Environment Studies 

The School of Ecology and Environment Studies that was commenced in the year 

2014 offers a Ph.D. programme. It was started to promote research to study the relationship and interaction between human activities and the natural environment. The course focuses on local and global environmental issues and aspires to create a critical understanding of environmental issues to benefit the world. The eligibility criteria are the same as the eligibility criteria for a Ph.D. in historical studies. 

Doctorate in Buddhist Studies, Philosophy, and Comparative Religions

The School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy, and Comparative Religions give special importance to the study of Buddhist ideas in relation to other religions. The focus is on contexts of Buddhism in different parts of Asia. The relevance of Buddhism in the modern period is also researched. Students who complete the course here are qualified for employment in various fields like Regional studies, Yoga studies, and Area Studies. 

Masters courses 

Masters degree courses are offered in Historical Studies, Ecology and Environment Studies, and Buddhist Studies, Philosophy, and Comparative Religions. The degree awarded is MA for Historical Studies and Buddhist Studies, Philosophy, and Comparative Religions, and it is M.Sc for Ecology and Environment Studies. The eligibility criteria is a minimum of 55% score in undergraduate courses. The selection is made based on Statement of Purpose, Bio-Statement, and Interview.
